2015 International Photographic Competition Awards

Kellie McCann of Kellie McCann Photography in Bluffton, is honored to announce her recent awards received this summer in the Professional Photographers of America’s 2015 International Photographic Competition. This was the first time Kellie has entered the competition and was thrilled for the recognition of her portraits from her travels in the Third World.

Kellie's work will be on display at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Jan. 10-12, 2016. This international photographic exhibit is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention and expo for professional photographers and several photographic associations.

A panel of 43 eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from more than 5,000 total submitted entries at Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia. Judged against a standard of excellence, just over 2,100 images were selected for the General Collection and 1,085 (roughly 21 percent) were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection—the best of the best. The Loan Collection images will all be published in the much-anticipated “Loan Collection” book and over 200 selected General Collection images will be published in the “Showcase” book by Marathon Press

Kellie was honored to have two portraits accepted into the Loan Collection and one accepted into the General Collection.

"Lost Soul"

They call him "Baygon" after the bug spray he used to huff. Baygon has become one of my favorite subjects in this rural dump in Nicaragua. Others survive on recycling items from the trash, he survives on literally living off items that he can eat, drink or huff. Only 26, I hope I will see him on my next visit to the dump site as he has become a personal project for me...I keep trying to reach out to him, we do communicate...but he still has yet to speak to me...someday I hope he will.
This image is part of a long-term personal project.  Kellie created this image in Nicaragua, 2014 on a 12-day trip traveling the country.  Her third trip to Nicaragua.  Kellie returned in December of 2015 (her fourth trip) and as she had hoped she found "Baygon" again amongst the trash.

"Child of Cristo Rey"

A three-year-old child eats his meal of mush in the slum of Cristo Rey. Cristo Rey is a barrio in Tipitapa Nicaragua. Many of the people who were moved out to Cristo Rey were from the city dump in Managua. The lake area in the dump became too contaminated with feces and it was thought best that the people moved out of the dump. For many people, they were promised a “land of luxury”. To their surprise, it was a vacant, yucca field with no running water, no electricity, no food, no shelter.

"African Child"

Portrait of an African 4-year-old boy in the rural countryside of Kenya.  This boy I found on a past 12 day visit in Kenya.  The child to me, even though only 4, looked 'aged' with his ashy skin and
